Unemployed, alone and want to do something

    Hi,

I am a software developer with two years experience with a masters. I am unemployed, and did a couple of interviews but no luck.

I kind of feel lonely, and messed up, and need to take my mind off, the trailing mindless and useless thoughts that strip my motivation and all sense of the responsibilities of being unemployed.

Anyone got any ideas, that can help me do something, like to make a bit of money hopefully. Like making a website or any other ideas?

    Thanks,

Where are you located? If you're near Dublin, I have some suggestions.

Google Summer of Code - apply for this first of all. http://code.google.com/soc/

Also, a lot of startup companies in Dublin are looking for temporary software developers:
National Digital Research Centre hosts 30 start-up companies and some of these need developers (www.ndrc.ie)

Startup Bootcamp are located on 35a Barrow Street and they may need developers as well.

If you want some temporary paid work while you're looking for jobs, do some coding for Dogpatch Labs, which are located opposite 35a Barrow Street. (http://dogpatchlabs.com/

Check out Adecco in Swords, they may also have some positions related to your field.

    Hi Fizzlefozzle,

You could look at www.vworker.com and bid for some work.

Also if you're based in Dublin try contacting some of the large consulting firms that look at filling contract positions for public and private sector .....Version I, Bearing Point, Sogeti are a few names I can think of.

Also, set up a profile on linkedin.com and you will get prompts for jobs that would suit you.

Keep the chin up, best of luck.

Why not try freelancing for companies looking for small projects. That way you can build up a portfolio of App development or even start developing some ideas and turn it into software for download.

At least when you go through the process of further interviews, you have something to show for it, i.e. time well spent and your work being used by someone.
