Hi, Mods please move this thread if I've posted in the wrong forum, thanks.

My nephew wants to study in Edinburgh University and has looked at the funding criteria with SAAS. He was born in England and holds a british passport, but lives here in Ireland, has been here since he was 2yrs old and is in school here. Is he classed as an EU citizen or an english citizen?

I think he is in the EU catagory, but am I wrong?

There's a detailed (if not a little complicated!) explanation here - from reading it it would appear that he's entitled to the same support as an EU student (i.e. fees only) even though he was born in the UK. Generally residency is more of a factor than citizenship when applying for student support in the UK including Scotland.
