hey guys. heres a quick video of my PCs boot time. for the spec of the PC (below) I've been told its quite slow especially based on the fact Windows is running from an SSD. the thing is though once Windows is booted up everything runs straight away as you can see by how quickly i can get online, unlike most PCs/Laptops i've used where i have to wait for everything to load after logging in. I'm just looking for ways to speed up my boot time...

sorry about the poor lighting on the video...

    Spec:
    Windows 7 64bit
    Asus P8 Z68-V/Gen3 Mother Board
    Intel i7 2600k 3.4GHz CPU
    16Gb RAM
120GB SSD (Win 7 is installed here)
    2TB HDD
    Evga GTX 570 1.28GB GPU
    750w PSU
    Corasair Carbide 500r Case
    Razer Lycosa Keyboard
    Razer Imperator Mouse
    DVD RW drive

How long is a piece of string?

Get ccleaner and use its startup tab to disable software launching at boot. Just keep what you need. They'll still start manually when needed.

Press Windows key + R to open up the run dialogue box, then type msconfig. Go to the startup tab and disable anything you don't want to start automatically at bootup. Be careful of what you disable and if unsure about anything research what it is before disabling.

When everything is booted up check the number of processes that are running (it's in Task Manager).

If 80+ processes are running when fully loaded, that's probably too much.
Use CCleaner to disable any unnecessary startup processes.

It seems, some people haven't heard of Autoruns... :D
This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

Autoruns' Hide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system. Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc.

Of course you may not want to disable just anything and delaying certain programs helps a great deal, that's where Startup Delayer comes in handy.

And then there are Blackviper's Windows service tweak guides.

have you actually benchmarked the SSD yet to see how well it actually performs compared to how it's supposed to perform?

you can download ATTO or CrystalDiskMark to run some benchmarks on the SSD to see how fast it actually is.

If you want to squeeze the boot time even further, use the option /noguiboot (no more silly anymated boot logo) and disable the startup sound.
