I have had my iPod for a 1 year and half now and for that time it's been all good. For some reason now my earphones/headphone jack will Go I'n a liitle bit into my iPod but won't go far enough so I can hear my music through my earphones.

i usually cut off the last couple of mm bit of plastic of the end where it actually touches the plug

Your jack is full of lint. Has happened to me before. Put a small bend in the end of a pin and dig it out.
