I'm wondering wheter to try and upgrade my Galaxy europa (crap phone I know) from froyo to gingerbread, I've found a custom rom to do it, it seems that this is bit risky, just wondering if its worth the risk, any of you guys tred this, what improvements can I expect

Am running Gingerbread Cyanogen Mod on my Europa and it works well, this is the maintainer and download links. Direct link to Cyanogenmod is here. Just download Rom Manager (from market), root phone and install clockwork recovery (Make sure to pick correct model #).
You can pick up a baseband for your phone here. You should update baseband as I think stock ones don't work well with cyanogenmod. You use Odin (look on xdadevelopers for it or pm me) to flash basebands.
One last thing, backup all your stuff, Clockworkmod requires you to wipe everything, future versions can be done w/out datawipe

Good advice there with starting with XDA-D and also here would too be a good place for learning about flashing roms, rooting and the like.

Just take your time and what will appear like a unclimbable mountain for 24 hours will soon be a cake walk in a few days and you'll be posting telling others how to do it.

    Best of luck.
