Tuam Golf Club is in Barnacurragh out the Athenry Road. Have a look in the Tuam Herald to see what they have to offer. I think they do lessons. I'd start going to one of the local pubs (if you are into going to pubs) and join their society and go on golf outings. You'll get to meet people that way.

I only really know the sports groups to be honest.

Are you into music? Play any instruments?

I don't know how "Culchie" you are lol! :D And I don't know if you'd be into music/drama. But there's quite a lot of Drama Societies in the Parishes and Villages outside of Tuam which put on Plays now and again in their Local Halls and Community Centres etc. Would be one way of meeting new people, and I guess some/most of them may turn out to socialise in Tuam with it being their local town, so ya could as a result make new friends too. :)

    http://www.tuamgolfclub.com/

I find the The Bridge Bar is a friendly place to go for a pint.(I think it has a golf society)
There's also the Gym/Leisure Centre that also runs keep fit classes.
There's a Rugby Club in Tuam too if that floats your boat?

You can actually join the golf club for as little as €200 I think which gives you playing rights anytime during the week. A great way to start off. There is also a resident professional there who does lessons.
There is also a vibrant athletics club in the town if that is your thing. They meet for runs every Thursday evening during the summer.
