Legally? No. You will have to contact Dell and they will send you the disc, they'll charge you though. €15 yoyos, IIRC.

No, at least not in the way of the original HDD but you can create your own recovery image and save it on another partition or external HDD (i.e. with ToDo Backup)

FFS... you'd think a legal product code would entitle you to download an install image legally..

It's software and you don't own it so you have next to no rights under consumer legleslation. Microsoft own the license and can dictate the terms of use - read an EULA sometime. They allow 7 to be downloaded but not earlier versions. Their software, their rules.

Also it's OEM so Microsoft have washed their hands of supporting it.

next time you are in PC world or similar have a look at the cost of a Full (not upgrade) copy of windows

€15 sucks, in comparison you can pick up an upgrade version of Mac OSX for €29 - but far cheaper than buying a new copy of windows.

Dell are very common here , you must know someone with a DELL Vista Home Premium (or whichever version) DVD you could borrow. Perhaps your mates sisters best friends uncle has one ? :pac:

Ah, not really, it's and administrative and shipping fee, which is fair enough.

And you could have created those discs yourself. IIRC Dell was shipping ther computers with DVD images on the hard drive and instructions how to burn them, at least for a while in the olden Vista days. If you haven't done it, it's your responsibility. ;)

With some manufacturers you can double that price, I think €15 aint too bad if that's Dells rate. Be prepared a long wait for the discs to be posted though :rolleyes: , I think 2 weeks is the average time it takes to "process"

You can use any source Media (Install DVD) that matches your installed version of the OS. Just use the License Key printed on the label on the underside of your laptop. I've done this on occasions and it works fine and passed the WGA and validation.
