So looks like Galloway will be around for another while in Westminster. What are After Hours views on Galloway and whether you think he deserves a place in Westminster.

Obviously he's famous for his anti-war messages on Iraq and Afghanistan, about how he despises Israel and so forth...

So what's the view around here of GG!! ;)

Galloway is pro war, he's just on the other side.

I wonder what it was about George Galloway's character and beliefs that so endeared him to the electorate of Bradford West? :D :pac:

The George Galloway that uttered those famous words...."Would you like me to be the Cat"

    I miss BB.

    How so..

The circumstances around his expulsion from the Labour Party could suggest so, he more or less suggested that the rest of the Arab world rise up and ride to Iraq's rescue, while at the same time encouraging British troops to disobey orders. More recently he's become close with Hamas even going as far as to accept a Palestinian passport from their leader. To me anyway I see him as being firmly on the Arab side and fully in agreement to the use of physical force to achieve political aims.

The Channel 5 Celebrity one wasn't bad, there's another CBB after the Olympics.

I got bored of BB after series 4, the Celebrity one is just more cringe worthy.

This is without doubt a hugely significant day in British politics.

Galloway, with members of Bradford's muslim population standing around him, described this as the "Bradford Spring". That in itself is very telling. Just like the arab spring, this is nothing but a very blatant show of anti-western sentiment in muslim communities (because anyone who is in any way switched on understands that is exactly what it was, not a move towards liberalism and democracy). The fact that this time it has happened in a by-election, was voted for by a massive majority, and was not a protest by a disorganised rabble outside the US embassy marks the start of a new political movement in Britain in my eyes.

This "-spring" happened in North Yorkshire, not North Africa. Interesting times in England lie ahead.

Hasnt he previously represented Glasgow and then East London?

Is he on a rotating tour or something?

Are we only allowed to discuss Irish subjects here , tell that to the Soccer forum !!

This result is a freak , Bradford has a huge Asian population ( is it a majority now ) . he stood on an ' anti war ' thing , ie , stop bashing muslims for their oil type platform .

The only party that should be slightly worried would be the Labour party , who should be a little embarressed .

He is a pretty repulsive man TBH

It's just that no reference was made to the fact that it was a UK event.

Would someone report on a shock French, German, Canadian or USA election result in such a way?

Don't ask George, he thinks he is in Blackburn.

I wish the Scots would hurry up with their referendum and vote for independence, that seems to be the only way to rid England of this Scottish oppression.

The trouble with Scotland is...... it's full of Scots.

Hilarious, nothing funnier than the establishment getting a finger in its eye. there's lot to dislike about George, But I'll tell you this, He is legendary status in my books for the time he made a bunch of clowns out of the US senate.

I wonder if he'll turn up this time?

    From Wiki:
"Following the 2005 election, his participation rate remained low, at the end of the year he had participated in only 15% of Divisions in the House of Commons since the general election, placing him 634th of 645 MPs – of the eleven MPs below him in the rankings, one is the former Prime Minister Tony Blair, five are Sinn Féin members who have an abstentionist policy toward taking their seats, three are the speaker and deputy speakers and therefore ineligible to vote, and two have died since the election."

    He's well recognised here.

Can't stand him - seems a right bully-boy. I might share many of his views but just because he's a liberal and a socialist doesn't make him worthy of respect IMO. A lot of people on the far left are really bigoted and obnoxious.
And his pro-war views are pretty shocking, even if it's the underdog he's supporting.

His excuse to Paxman was his vote was irrelevant anyway.

Plenty of Independents and smaller parties could use that excuse here but they don't. George could get more TV time as well.

Isn't George Galloway friends with Fidel Castro or something? You could imagine what things would be like if he were active during the Cold War era.

I don't really care much for the guy tbh, he just get's to me. Everytime I see his face, i'm haunted by that image of him on Big Brother pretending to be a cat.

I thought he represented Bethnal Green, a very poor part of London

And before that he was in Scotland

If he actually stayed in one place and worked for his constituents he might get somewhere

They are the people who put him there after all, he seems to forget that

Letter sent to Bradford Muslims by Galloway just before the election.

How the Daily Telegraph's David Blair weeped that day! It was his article, if i'm not mistaken, which led to the whole thing.
