I've got offered a placement though job bridge, however the distance I have to travel makes it nearly unfeasible. Is there anyway to receive more or perhaps rent allowance (have been living at home) earlier.

    cheers

Sorry, as far as I am aware there is no extra compensation for travel. It may be worth checking the site for clarification but I very much doubt they will reimburse you for fuel.

Could you move closer and get rent allowance?

Unlike how it is with Fás courses, JobBridge does not provide any travel or accommodation allowance and just gives the €50 on top of whatever social welfare payment you were already receiving.

In order to qualify for Rent Supplement, you would have to meet the usual criteria i.e., either already have been renting for 6 months privately, have been able to afford the rent when tenancy started and have suffered a downturn in income since, OR be approved by the local authority as being in need of social housing. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html

Some people who have been unable to travel or relocate for JobBridge internships have managed to talk local employers into signing up for JobBridge, so that might be worth a try.

I think you need to be leaving away from home for 6months before they allow rent allowance and without it I really cant afford to rent.

out of curiousity why apply for a placement that is unfeasable if you knew it would be unfeasable? Interview experience?
