Blisters!

    Hey,

I bought a new pair of runners about 6 weeks ago and predictably I developed blisters after my first run.

They are now well broken in, however two weeks ago during my LSR (longest to date) I developed them again, same place on inside of foot.

The skin has healed and is now pretty tough. I'm just a little paranoid I might develop some during the Connemarathon on Sunday.
Is there anything that can be done to minimise the likelihood?

I used Compeed blister plasters to treat them last time.
This might sound mad, but if I put two fresh plasters on the morning of the race would this help prevent me developing them?

    Thanks

It certainly can't hurt to stick a couple of compeed on the morning of the race, they've always worked for me and prevented rubbing. A good decent pair of running socks is also recommended. Could it be a case that your new runners aren't broken in properly yet?

I'm guessing I've clocked up around 150-180km on them so I'm presuming they are broken in. Will put the compeeds on that morning.

    Cheers

Last time I was on the look out for a new supply of Compeed in anticipation of the blisters to come after a marathon I spotted an anti blister stick they do as well. That was then used liberally on the feet in the common places I'd get them before starting and I made it to the end without any blisters.

Put the compeed in place and bin dthem on with a thin sticky bandage wrapped around you foot. Something elastic like KT tape would work well to protect the surrounding skin as well.
