Motor tax is cc based so €660 per year.

This is a petrol and early 2008 so will be cc based also so same motor tax. If it was me and I had a choice of both I would go for the 2007 520D, far better engine and mpg.

Cheers lads. But then I just thought of the whole changes in tax issues that the twats are about to change around and google threw up this....
    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/huge-hike-in-road-tax-as-motor-cash-dries-up-3039261.html
I know it says the 520d falls into the lowest band and I now know the one linked to earlier isn't this low (thanks for clarifying it for me) but it would seem likely that I would be nailed with motor taxes on it.
I'd be all for the 520 too, looks way nicer and they have gotten so much cheaper than when i was last trying to scrape the money together. (ended up with a Passat ~ which I actually really like). Herselves car is getting the bullet this time, shes getting the Passat and I'm looking for something nice but relatively cheap to run as I don't do huge mileage at all....... decisions decision.
The 520d that they have there though; pricewise looks pretty good no?

If your not doing much miles then a petrol engined model will likely be even better value as they will be cheaper then the diesel models these days.

But you mention cheap to run and modern BMW in the same sentence...check up proper maintenance and repair costs and make sure you factor them in.

Thats a fine 520d. Best of seen online for a long time. Low mileage too. Doesnt look like it was used by a busy business man. Far nice than the 3 Series

I'd go for this one on donedeal instead. You can buy them a lot cheaper privately.. as long as you look for full FSH etc..
    2008 M sport version..
A mate of mine is mad to buy one and he was showing me this one..won't be buying a car for a while though :)

I bought one back in July and love it..but sorry now I didn't get the 2008 engine (more refined and went to 177hp from 163hp) and an automatic...manual just sucks in these..nothing wrong with the box but an auto just suits them more.
But black exterior and cream leather looks fantastic though..

I wouldn't say it's the best. It's an SE with the cheap leather. They're are much nicer. Manual too which is a big no no in an executive car.

If its was me, I would not be spending that amount of money on 2007 520d unless it was at a minimum the LCI version (which the one you have asked about isn't) and then I would also be looking for the LCI version with updated engine & gearbox.

Cars from first half of 2008 can be either CC or CO2 based.

Afaik, you can opt for whichever is cheaper. Not sure if this can be changed by a subsequent owner, but would presume that the original owner would already have opted for the cheaper tax.

Personally i'd be looking for a 163bhp model. Do a quick google for n47 timing chain and you'll see why to avoid the 177bhp one.

My advice is if your not doing big mileage don't get the 520d as I can tell you a story of why people that don't require a diesel shouldn't get one. Basicly a woman with a x3 with the same 2 litre diesel engine as the 520d left her car into us as it was under powered so we went further investigating the usual story of the egr being full of carbon and then looking into the inlet manifold that was fully caked with carbon altogether so took off the manifold and to my suprize all the ports on the inlet valves were completely caked so it was head off to fix it that's ina 2 year old car

It was automatically changed over if it was cheaper or else left alone.
