    Hi,
I bought an apple tv on adverts for my sis for her birthday.
First problem was I found out her tv had no hdmi port, bought a convertor, 50 euroo.
She tried it tonight and it worked perfectly.
Other problem I am having now is the atv was jailbroken and is booting straight into xbmc?
She just wants to use it for netflix but can't get out of xbmc?
Any way to do it apart from restoring ?
She doesnt have a micro usb at the moment so need a quick fox if possible?
    Thanks
    Sham.

Exit out of xbmc (bottom left hand corner on main page) should bring you back to the Apple menu.

Doesn't work, just keeps going back to xbmc.
I think this was done purposely by the previous owner of the box
I need to ssh into it and reverse the direct boot or failing that restore the box
    Cheers for the reply though

    Hi

You will need to SSH into ATV and enter this CL

    apt-get remove org.tomcool.xbmc-booter

If you ever want to add it back...

    apt-get install org.tomcool.xbmc-booter

    DT

You can do this over wifi no cables required! log in with user name : root password : alpine hope the password was not rest or you will need a micro to restore it.

    Download PuTTY http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
    to do this.

    Cheers for the replies.
I knew what I have to do but can't do it.
I bought the ATV2 from a guy on adverts.
I don't know the ip as I can't get into the settings to find it (can't get out of XMBC) so can't ssh
Is there another way to find the IP?
I am trying plugging it into my router etc.
Guy gave me a couple of ip's to try but not working.
It froze completely earlier but I managed to get it back.
GUy said he would give me my money back but I would rather fix it if possible.
    Cheers again.

didnt show up at all in xbmc.
I finally got it throught administration on my router, uninstalled the quick boot but it was still booting straight into it so uninstalled xbmc altogether.
    Hours i spent on this.
Thanks to all for the help....

    The problem continues.
When I got the tv back working it was on 4.3.3 or something like that.
So I updated it through the apple tv via the remote.
When it was finished it just stayed on the silver logo and its stuck on that ever since.
I cant see it in itunes to restore and now I can't even SSH into it?
    Anyone got any ideas?
    All I did was update?
    Thanks
    sham.

    Hey

Try putting the ATV into DFU Mode and connect to itunes

Itunes should find the device in DFU mode and allow you to restore.

This shows the best way to do it

    thats the problem mate,
can't get it into dfu modfe no matter what i try.

    Hi

Its all about the power..try these steps

press menu+down ( when usb connected)--> this reboots the atv

remove the power ( this is what is not in most descriptions but it was the only way I could get things in DFU)

press menu+play for the 7 secs or so this will put it into dfu

replace the power cable and continue

When finished do not disconnect the power cable. Just disconnect the usb cable and plug in the hdmi cable. You should then be at the selection of the language.

    Just cant get it.
How long do I hold the manu and down for?
Sometimes the apple tv menu comes up ( for my imac )
Tried different combos and just can't get it.
    Very frustrating.
I had to give my sister my box and i have her's so no movies for me tonight..:(
    cheers.

Just an update in case anyone has the same issue.
If when updating to the latest firmware the apple tv hangs for any reason and displays the apple logo you will need a micro usb cable to plug it into pc/mac and restore.
This sounds simple but it took me 3 diffferent cables to get it working.
So if it doesnt work first time, try a different cable...
    Thanks all for the help.
