anyway i have paypal account and i use ebay alot and i know from friends of mine they use a 3v prepaid card.

    my question is,

is the 3v card best way to go
    is there an alternative card
what are apr rates on prepaid cards.

    some advice/opinions would be helpful!!!

I had a 3v card and i find its rubbish. The minimum you have to top up with is 30 euros. There is a charge on topping up.

I now have an o2 money card and the minimum to top up is 20 euro and a charge on topping up.

I have just read about the moneybookers pre paid mastercard and it seems like the best. There is an annual charge of 10 euro. But no charges on topping up if you top up using your laser card or bank transfer. There is no minimum or maximum amount to top up either. It seems like the best card.

If you are anywhere near Cork, it may be worth sussing out Bishopstown Credit Union. They have a prepaid mastercard on their current account and they dont charge anything for transactions etc. You can lodge money into the current account using internet banking.
you even get a text every time the card is used.

The 3V card is a dying breed. Where I live the closest place I can top it up is five miles away.

i have an o2 card aswell .. its perfect exccept the minimum amount you can top up with.

A way to workaround that is with moneybookers. Just send money from your account (debit card) to your Moneybookers's online account and from there withdraw the money into your o2 Money card since it is a VISA card. there is a charge of €1.90 or so but its a great way to not have to top up by €20

If you pay off a normal credit card at the end of each month they work out much cheaper than the pre-paid cards. The only cost is the annual government stamp duty.

Normal credit cards also give a lot of protection, if the merchant goes bust before you receive your goods / service. I don't know if the pre-paid and / or debit cards do.

Can't all that be avoided by just using the moneybookers pre paid card? As in you transfer money from your bank account using the laser card and onto the moneybookers pre paid card. Its free to transfer money from the laser. You can topup any amount. There's no need for the o2 money card.

    I'd 100% recommend O2 Money.

Fees are tiny, compared to the likes of 3V and PayzoneMoney
