I recently bought my first mountain bike, I havent a clue about biking but looking to learn. What necessities do i need to purchase for riding? I have the helmet & lock but left it at that for the moment.

To get started you don't need anything other then a bike and helmet and just get out and ride!

You can spend money and get some bits but I woudn't spend too much until ya have a few runs first and are sure you like it. Bit of a catch 22 as some of the items below will ensure you enjoy it more!

First things I'd look at is some comfortable clothing - breathable T-Shirt and some baggy shorts, a rain jacket and some decent gloves.

A spare tube, tyre levers, mini-pump are essentials, then a multi tool and chain breaker.

Things then like clipless pedals and shoes are very good and can be picked up cheap enough these days. A camelbak is also great for mountain biking.

    Hope this helps.....
