Since it's topical and most (many/some) people will have looked at it this week I thought it'd be interesting to give a critical review of the household charge web site.
    • SEO is odd. Search for Household charge and the top page is the faq.aspx, not the home page.
    • The address search functionality is flaky and annoying. There is no predictive search. No alternate addresses are presented if you don't input the exact address match. The address search takes a long time. This looks like a point of failure.
Assuming there is a last minute rush it is highly likely the site will crash on Saturday. Anyone familiar with the fantasy football site will know it crashed not because it itself wasn't scalable but because it's login system was some third party which wasn't.
    • www.householdcharge.com gives you a 404 page not found exception. I assume this domain was registered along with the .ie. It should redirect to the .ie. I can imagine a percentage of people hitting the .com on Saturday, seeing "an error message" and assuming the .ie was down and so giving up.
It's a functional site so aesthetics don't matter so much to me beyond usability and scalability issues.
