These counties play next week and will also more then likely meet in the 1B relegation final aswell. If Laois were to pull off a shock and win the play off relegating Wexford in the process to 2A would there be calls to bring back divisions of 8 so that they'd avoid the third tier division?

The likes of Carlow and Kerry need their chance to play the bigger boys,if not it makes a mockery of their efforts to promote hurling.Yet the GAA seem to bend to keep the bigger county's happy. I recall the Clare manager saying they couldnt take Div 2 of the league serious after being relegated a few years back because they taught they were too good for Div 2.

Same thing happened a few years back when Clare and Wexford played in the Christy Ring relegation play off when from what i remember both teams more of less refused to be relegated if they lost, i also remember Antrim saying they couldn't be relegated for x amount of years, this again makes a mockery of the Christy Ring Cup,
And if noone gets relegated what do teams like Kerry and Down get to play for?

It must be a rule that only the likes Laois can be relegated , all the stronger counties must stay up (for the good of the game apparently)

If Wexford lose the relegation final to Laois they deserve to go down. Liam Dunne crapping on that they would pull out of it next year is rubbish. They only have themselves to blame for where the situation lies.

You have the Christy Ring thing a bit muddled. The problem lay with Antrim. Clare beat Wexford in the relegation semi, and Wexford were due to play Antrim. But Antrim signed up to a 3 year deal to play in Leinster, and therefore that meant the Liam McCarthy, so effectively could not be relegated. And you had a situation that despite Wexford winning their first round game against Offaly, they ended up in a relegation final, even though Offaly then only ended up beating Antrim. It was a very poorly thought out set up, and the relegation final wasnt played.

Division 2 of the league the last couple of years was a farce though. You had 2 strong teams in it, and there were hidings to the likes of Down and Carlow etc. It ended up with a Wexford Offaly final, then a Wexford Clare final, then a Clare Limerick final. It was basically whoever got relegated against the team who didnt get promoted. Carlow, Kerry Westmeath etc do deserve more credit, but they still arent up to competing at the next level just yet. Although Wexfords freefall is bringing them back down closer to them.

If they did go down, would it kill Wexford hurling, or prompt people in the county to do something about the dire condition of the game in their county?

it wont kill it, and there is already a lot being done, with a lot more still to go. Wexford have put no importance on the league campaign, they have been playing club games on the saturday of league weekends, and have had a lot of experimental sides out and lots of changes. I'd still be surprised if Laois turned them over.

How well organised are the development squads? Are the teams being turned out fairly competitive?

Part of the problem IMO. They make sure the are competitive for these things, and they have won a few tournaments over the last few years. But because the focus is on winning them, rather than developing players, they end up with limited squads. The minor team last year won nearly any tournament they were in, but lost to Dublin and then to Kilkenny badly in minor and didnt look like a good side, despite having a lot of very good players on it.

Want sure if that Christy Ring play off was a final or not just remember no one got relegated. I dont see why Antrim playing in Leinster should have made any difference, did Westmeath not playing in Leinster one year and still had to play in the Christy Ring Cup?

The likes of Kerry, Carlow, Westmeath are never going to get any better if they only play the likes of Wicklow and Derry (no disrespect to them) Atleast Carlow and Westmeath get to play the likes of Wexford, Offaly etc in the championship but Kerry wont get any better by winning the Christy Ring Cup again when there that much better then the rest

its been Kerrys choice for a couple of years to stay where they are, Meyler has said he is planning for down the road and getting them ready to be playing in the Munster championship. the whole integration of the second tier of teams to the higher level is one that needs more clarity though and how those teams can achieve as high a level of playing as they can.
