    Hi All,

was wondering if anyone has any ways to learn on how to set up a group policy on a single machine for multiple users. Computer is connecting to the internet through an ISP router but has multiple accounts (big family, many doing silly things on profiles :( ) and is running on a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate edition.
i'd like to think i have pretty decent knowledge of windows and have no fear of any kind when it comes to tinkering with the advanced stuff like registry settings and the like.

any advice or help that is given would be greatly appreciated

There are two basic local groups on Windows 7 Administrators and Users. Access to the Administrators/Users group is easily controlled through the User Account settings (you are either in one or the other)

A member of the User group cant install or modify software

You can use group policy on a single machine, it's called the local computer policy.

However it applies generally to all users, so it's not really suitable for locking down some users but not others. The best way to do that is using user groups.

    That's not quite right Seamus.

You can start up mmc, then "File\Add- remove Snap-in"
    Choose Group Policy object editor
    Click 'Add'
Now you'll be asked for the Group policy object, by default this is 'Local Computer' but if you click on Browse, you can see a 'Users' tab, which lists local users and groups.

Then you can apply the subsequent group policy on this user or group.
The default groups are 'Administrator' and 'non-administrator'. You might want to add a dedicated group and use the 'Resultant set of policy' mmc plugin to ensure that it affects only those you intended.
