Stuart Lancaster to be named permanent England coach by RFU

Stuart Lancaster is to be named permanent England head coach by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) on Thursday.

The 42-year-old was interim boss for the Six Nations, after Martin Johnson resigned, and led England to second place with four wins from five matches.

It is thought he will be given a four-year contract, to run until after the 2015 Rugby World Cup hosted by England.

Deserved TBH. But kinda bad form that the RFU waited. Doesn't show the coach much support.

Very interesting to see who he manages to secure around him.

Fair play to him. Good coach and really did a lot better than I expected with such a new, untested side.

Will he being losing Rowntree and Farrell?

I'd say Rowntree will stay but Farrell is gone. Sarries won't part with him apparently. Could be Wayne Smith instead [was hoping he would join Munster though].

I doubt it. Id say they'll come on board. I wonder if that'll be the full ticket though.

I'd be worried if Smith went there... Bags of potential in that English backline.

EDIT: Actually, if he's available, why aren't Ireland looking at him? Surely the Kiss double-roll is temporary?

Smith wouldn't suit our coaching staff at all surely. He said he'd work with Lancaster but said he'd have to be suited to him philosophically, that certainly wouldn't be true tor him and Kidney.

    How frustrating.

Well deserved. I've a lot of respect for what Lancaster has done with the English side. Anyone know exactly what the story is with Farrells contract with Sarries?

    Ben Cohen doesn't

Whats funniest about this article is that they have mentioned Ben Foden in the heading and have Ben Fodens pic in the article but its comments are from Ben Cohen who is definitely not Ben Foden; well done RTE; lazy journalism at its worst

I don't think so. He's just voicing his opinion and he's explained himself very well I thought. He makes good points. It's very easy to support Lancaster right now given all the momentum he has. The truth is though that he had very low expectations and noone knows how he'll do when the pressure is on.

I think ak is talking about RTE's journalistic blunder; they quite openly mistakened Foden for Cohen

At this stage im not surprised anymore whether there (rte) accusing innocent priests of chasing young boys while on missionary work in Africa without any concrete evidence or (allegedly) tarnishing Sean's Presidential election campaign; they have made an unquiet habit of grabbing the wrong bait repeatedly of late.
