Bottling day approaching and shy a few bottles. What's the cheapest beer to come in swingtops?
    Grolsh I'm guessing.
Was in tescos and they didn't have one swing top beer :(

I dunno about cheapest, but I think Flensburger Weizen is the best value: decent beer, brown glass, 500ml, and usually in the 4-for-€10 in decent off licences.

Also Home brew west are selling these adapters: http://www.homebrewwest.ie/metal-strap-for-fliptop-caps-10-pcs-1802-p.asp that allow you to fit swing tops onto regular bottles.

I have some but haven't fitted any yet. They are cheapest swing top option. I rarely have trouble accumulating bottles from various sources.

I bought mine at ASDA in Belfast. £1.98 for a 450ml bottle.

    EDIT: Grolsh Bottles

My fun evening yesterday was fitting 40 of these to pint bottles. Slightly sore thumbs this morning, but a fleet of bottles ready for pints of porter.

Home brew West getting in a big batch of swingtops soon with lower prices.
Pallets of swing tops are on the way from Belgium, and we have boxes being made up to pack them.

So swing top bottle prices will be falling soon (2 to 3 weeks).

Makes me glad to know that they are a good investment. I have been storing quality beer bottles (750ml Meantime IPA ) for long enough to cause relationship strain.

    I don't think Alpack delivers.

I emailed them before when I was looking for small swingtop bottles for mead.

They do indeed deliver but by the tray. I got a quote for one tray of small
bottles, I assume its equivalent for a similar sized tray of larger bottles.
Email:The delivery charge for glass is €20 + VAT and you can buy is pack of 40

Needless to say I still haven't got the little bottles for my mead as it works out
costing nearly €70...:( unless they qualify for a lower rate of VAT...

A long time ago when stuck, I got a pack of these delivered and if I remember it ended up costing close to 80 euros for the pack....bad idea with hindsight but they've now been filled and emptied several times...

If you have your own bottles, get the swingtop equipment from homebrewwest.

If you haven't got your own bottles just buy bottles with swingtops whenever you're drinking :D

I wouldn't bother buying empty swingtop bottles as when you think about it's really not that much cheaper than buying the bottles from an off licence with the added bonus of beer already in them!

The empty ones are probably more likely to be inferior quality too. I know a guy had to bring some back to wherever he got his, they were clear glass coated in a brown coating which was chipping off, the box said they were made in China. I would be dubious about the seal & plastic/ceramic material on Chinese stuff too. While I would trust a german breweries bottles.

Afaik, the ones sold by Alpack are made in Germany

The allpack bottles I got, although expensive, are very good quality. Theyre the heaviest bottle I've got and the first ones I'd use for a highly carbed beer like hefe weizen ..

    Thanks
