+1 on the RS80's but cheaper elsewhere. Try Planet-X or there's an Israeli charity shop on Ebay that does them.

Mavic ksyrium elite have a great price to lightness ratio whilst staying tough enough for Ireland's 'unique Tarmac quality'

€400-500 is a lot to spend on a pair of wheels.

I've a brand new (still in original plastic) set of Shimano Ultegra SL R601 wheels you can have. Looking for €225.

    Note, these are 10-speed only.

Well, the OP has described his bike as a "bog standard orbea", so I'm assuming it's at the lower end of the orbea spectrum, which use a very basic wheelset:).

Ah c'mon, one guy got three years out of them, the rims were probably worn through by then. Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't link to that review.

I bought these last year, and find them great. Little rolling resistance, well compared to my previous bog standard anyway.

merlin are doing the rs80s on special at £314.95, plus a further 10% so £283.46 plus delivery.

You could get Ksyrium Elites for 477 from Marrey Bikes in Ballinrobe

I got them for 466 from O'Neill cycles in Tuam but their website is down at the moment

Merlin are free delivery on orders over £100.

They're also doing the RS10's for just under £90 which is a great price and a good upgrade for anyone on a budget:).

once again , thanks to everyone who has given me advice on this , i'm strongly tempted by those shimano rs 80's from england , about €100 cheaper than over here ...which is a shame :(
