I've been in few long term relationships in past and recently started seeing really nice guy . I've recurring issues with mild depresison anxiety and ocd which have all make it very difficult for me to be happy .I'm pretty outgoing with people and funloving some of time. however ever since I was a child ivy always been exceptionally happy being alone, never get bored, feel more relaxed, have more control etc.I think my anxiety etc are part of my personality and I ain't going to change now. I simply find that while being in relnship is nice in theory and I do have need for close friendship, Im not capable of the compromise needed to sustain a long term relationship.
all my friends and family insist that I need to try and work on relnship as its natural to be happier one then not and I should be fighting my need to send inordinate amounts of time on own.I'm wondering if this has to be the case. should I accept myself and have fact that while id like to be involved with someone, I'm simply not capable of it because of my natural lonerness compounded by my need for control etc. anyone else out there think that despite societys general acceptance that its lonelier to be alone, some people are more content and the loneliness is better option then compromising.

When you find the right person you won't have to compromise. There will always be people who will not understand that is perfectly normal for someone to enjoy spending time on there own, just like there are people who never like being on there own. A relationship with someone like this is never going to work.

Relationships only work if one person understands and excepts the other persons needs - in your case the need to spend time on your own. You speak like you feel that you will never be capable of sustaining a relationship this is not the case you just haven't met someone who really gets you. When you meet the right person they won't make you feel this way.
