Travelling Expenses

Just wondering what the official scenario is with expenses for the average club player. I know two people from different clubs that get travelling expenses from their clubs. Dunno what the story is with my own club because I haven't asked.

So my question is: Does the GAA have an official policy in this regard that they re-emburse players, or is this something the clubs take on themselves?

Never heard of ordinary club players getting travelling expenses before.

There is no official policy. Clubs take this upon themselves if they want lads to travel back home to play, rather than transfer out to a club nearer to where they live

I know some clubs will pay some students bus fares if they come home mid-week, sometimes they will try to arrange a carpool and give the driver some money for petrol, but normally you wouldn't get great expenses for travelling.

Very few club players would be getting expenses - if clubs can afford to give lads coming home from college midweek at their expense fair play, but it would be the exception rather than the norm

In my own experience, my club had a bit of money put aside to bring lads home from college for games. I never used it, but I'm aware it was there.

However, I was also approached by another club in another county which borders Dublin. They offered me mileage from Dublin to come and play for them. I turned the approach down, found the whole thing pretty surprising.
