I seen thon thing few weeks ago just outside Dundalk. The Pilot likes Low Level anyway I see!

There's a Danish registered PA31 operating out of Galway at the moment. Irish crew though. That's on some kind of survey. It's not low level more like 6k.. The one over Dundalk low level is the the Twin Otter mentioned previously.

No,it definatly wasnt the Twin Otter. This was operating around 1400-1500ft.

That's standard OS survey stuff. Days like we've had lately are perfect for them.

The 1400/1500 feet people are probably photographic survey people. The locals will soon receive a visit from representives.

WAC and WMN will be out of business next year.;)

    Xflyer,

Who owns the Twin Otter? When I seen it the Aircraft must have been no more than 500Ft.

Are they being retired?? Always like to see them in Knock getting Fuel.

Twin Otter is less than 300 feet, Sanders Geophysics owns it. As for the WAC and WMN the contract is up for renewal. Who know who will win that.;)

My father says he saw something that looked "like a DC3" doing survey work out of St Angelo recently, don't think its a Twin Otter or an Aztec he saw - what are the fracking survey people using?

Twin Otter, nothing to do with fracking or gas. This is the website.

Its not that, knew of that already

There *is* a fracking survey plane flying out of St Angelo but every reference to it online doesn't mention what it is (as its mainly websites moaning about it rather than being aviation sites interested in the plane).

MYOB,the DC-3 your father saw was most likely C-FTGI,however its retrofitted with PT6A turboprop engines and known Basler BT-67.

Came across this on youtube. It seems there is a Basler based there. It's the same one that was surveying across the rest of the country a couple of years ago.

The weather forecast for next year isn't good, lots of rain and cloud.:)

As for the Basler/DC3 survey aircraft. Currently it's sitting in Galway airport. Weekend off, I suppose.

Heard that, was wondering what they were up to. I have quite a few hours on CFY. Didn't even know that it was flying again.

I do remember CFY being used for a survey job at one stage, some gadget poking out the baggage door.

There was a breakfast fly in at the SAC field in Wexford. Because it was sunny but cold, Gawd it was cold! There was a lot of GA traffic around. Shannon ATC was very busy.

How soon before drones are doing this work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

RC aircraft are already doing some small amounts of survey work/aerial photography/mapping...though it's mainly in line of sight of the operator.
