    Hi,

would anyone be able to tell me if there is tax relief available from Revenue for sponsorship of jerseys, bags etc.

If you could guide me to the information on the Revenue site or tell me of your experiences getting the tax relief,if its available, I would be grateful.

Wouldn't this be all to do with being registered as a non-profit organisation (i.e. the club)? If you are looking for a business seeking relief, couldn't they just write it off as a business expense (i.e. advertising)?

Its a business that is willing to sponsor the club, a pub to be more specific. How can the business get money back on the sponsorship?

As far as I know all GAA clubs are characterized as charitable organisations with Revenue and a business is allowed tax relief on sponsorship. But I can't find this in writhing.

The sponsorship will be for bags and Hoodies. Would these be covered and if so what level of tax relief is available to potential sponsor?

I'm no where near a tax expert, http://www.askaboutmoney.com is usually a good spot for questions like this, I can't find a suitable sub-forum on here for some reason.

Anyway, I guess the business would have a couple of choices, buy the kit for you and hand it over, that way they can claim the tax on it or hand over the money, you give them a receipt and they claim that as a business expenses, that way they'll be able to write this cost off against any profits they make.

Sponsorship per se wouldn't be a deductible expense as it wouldn't be for the benefit of the company's trade. However, advertising is a legitimate business expense that is deductible for tax purposes.

Also, GAA clubs are not charities for tax purpose, they are sporting organisations which have similar but slightly different rules i.e. if a PAYE employee gives a donation to a charity, the charity can gain an extra benefit based on the employees marginal tax rate - this doesn't apply to donations to a sports club.
