I am thinking of getting an Ebook reader, pref one that is easily navigable. Can anyone recommend any?

Was looking at Kindle 3G keyboard in Tesco, they seem a bit small at 7" when one would take chapter reference etc into consideration.

I would definitely recommend the Kindle. You can read it in direct sunlight, you can alter the size of print, it has a search feature, you can underline passages, and it always remembers your place. Personally I wouldn't bother with the keyboard version unless you're planning to type in loads of notes.

I have this kindle, and would highly recommend it! I bought it direct from Amazon.

I have the current Kindle (wi-fi only, without the keyboard). I love it and I don't feel like I'm missing out by not having a keyboard as I never need to use it and not having it keeps the size down. Just to warn you though-I don't think e-readers are the greatest when it comes to heavy reference books, there is something about being able to flick to the index on a whim in the printed version that an e-reader can't replicate. Otherwise I'd thoroughly recommend the Kindle.

I also like to use the voice feature, and have the book 'read' to me! :D

I have the kindle with keypad. But...how do you access the voice feature?

Click on the button that's directly beside the right hand side of the long space-bar, and you will see 'text to speech' option! :)

I wouldnt get one too small. Really, a good one or two year warranty from a real shop might be very useful to you. I use an iPad which is pretty great, I got mine 2nd hand but the 100 euro ereaders are pretty good. I would buy one from an Irish retailer so that if it breaks down in 6 months you can get a free replacement.

I thought IPad but I would expect the screen to be a similar texture to any PC or Laptop unlike EReaders.

Google and Amazon us the Android system which is developing in leaps and bounds but IPad is amazing and is really stunning. But very overpriced. If you only want a system for book reading then an ereader is good enough.
I actually prefer books more but last night I downloaded a book onto the iPad for 1 euro in seconds.the iPad basically does everything but just don't drop it!
Again, warranty is essential. The people in the shops only care if you have your original receipt, then there's no problem.

Hmmm, I love paper books for the smell and feel of a book. I would have thought that e readers would be great for reference books, manuals and such like, perhaps the lack of color pictures hinders this. Makers should put a shortcut button to the index on the hardware.
Oh and not needing batteries you know like books:) !

The Kindle battery lasts for weeks.

I can't stand the audio thing on it. It's like having a Satnav read a book - weird monotones and a lack of emphasis.

I should add that I've never read the instructions so it's possible that I'm missing a number of features that the Kindle has. As PDN says, the battery life is incredible, the battery is only used every couple of pages so you can go for weeks without recharging. I''ve had it for 10 weeks and only charged it twice. It will come into it's own when travelling, will be able to pack a lot lighter!

Download the software Kindle from Amazon onto your PC, Mac, laptop, MacBook etc and then download books to it. Configure the display options black on white, black on sepia, white on black, font size, columns per page, etc etc and read away without any additional expenditure.

Google now offers a downloader for ebooks, as does Adobe with their digital editions and so does Apple.

Cheers I decided to go for this one. Argus for e167 which was cheaper than anywhere else. The leather case was 40, I am hoping to get it cheaper on EBay or Adverts.

Has anyone got the cover with built in led light?

Just downloaded a few books after having teething problems trying to get my account set up. Navigation takes a bit of getting used to.

    Cheers for the replies.

I thought at first that I wouldn't take to the Kindle because I like books so much, turning the page etc. and the experience attached to closing the last page, and opening the first.. :) You know the way when you are absorbed in a book it tends to disappear except the odd time, when you have to turn around and your hand gets tired from holding it? Well, I have to say, I still love books, but the Kindle is designed to 'disappear' too - and I have to say it does live up to that, it's just like reading a book on paper, you still get absorbed into it, and the Kindle disappears.

Actually, the screen on it is very mat just like a book would be, and it allows you to read in sunlight too -

Would highly recommend Amazons version - although a bit of colour would be nice for those books with pictures in. I still find it amazing that you can have an entire book in all of 2 seconds without leaving your house..lol....Got mine for Christmas, and honestly I haven't stopped reading, sometimes I might have a few on the go - it's a great little piece of technology.

Its more of an IPad or Galaxy type of thing than an e_reader, ie back lit screen, harder on the eyes and a considerably shorter battery life.

I've had great customer support from Amazon regarding the kindle - But the downside of it is the more restrictive amount of books available to buy on their international marketplace compared to the US/UK sites.

True, some books are not available yet to download - I still had to order some online in the print format - In saying that, a great many classics are free - and some of them are a really good read. Also, most books are cheaper to download rather than print.

True, it's more of a Tablet than a Kindle. I think Amazon are just trading on the Kindle name here.
