Has the TC finally realised that teachers are none too impressed with the reg fee, its cost, and what use it is?

At its meeting on 26 March 2012, the outgoing Teaching Council reviewed its financial statements for 2011 and budget for 2012. In the context of the Council’s current financial situation and the impending commencement of section 30 as indicated by the Minister for Education and Skills, the Council decided to recommend to the Minister for Education and Skills that the annual teacher registration renewal fee be reduced from €90 to €65 with effect from 01 January 2013.*
It is intended that all teachers renewing registration during 2013 would benefit from this reduction.
For those applying for initial registration or renewing their registration during 2012, the existing €90 fee will continue to apply.

Pity it didn't drop to €50!

€65 is still madness for a quango that not one single teacher that I know of asked for or wanted. £35 in the UK.

So basically, don't register until 2013 to get the reduced fee. Simples.

My registration lapses in August. I think I'll just write a postdated cheque to 1/1/2013 for €65 and see what happens.

    Ingenious idea.

I saw that the T.C. looked forward to the "commencement act". Does that mean that all along it was quazi legal. Was the 90 euro each year a gift, a donation or a voluntary contribution? Here's something for yourself - big fellow.

With all the stockpiled fees building up for the past few years and only a odd survey coming out once in a blue moon how could they continue to justify their existence let alone the fee?

They do print lovely handbooks, with a very high GSM and that nice freshly-printed smell. :D

But seriously, otherwise, they barely fulfill a worthy function. Information and website links is all that's useful on their site (which is also available on other education-related websites)
