Carroll's Irish Open

I'm currently looking into the Irish Open sponsored by Carroll's between 1963 and 1993.

I think it was they who revived the actual tournament itself in 1975 at Woodbrook? Can't find much information online, but I think that the reason they subsequently stopped was because of tobacco advertising laws?

Any info or links are much appreciated

Hope this is the right place for this.

    Not much help.

I can't believe Woodbrook Golf Club is listed as Co Wicklow when clearly it is in Co Dublin. I even checked it on Google maps - it is Dublin.
I remember Tom Watson playing, although unfortunately I was mostly there with my father who insisted we follow Christy O'Connor Snr. (year after year).

List of past winners since 1975. Before that it was called the Carrolls International. The Sunday Independent used to come with a colour cover on the last day with coverage of the event and of course lots of ads. for the Carrolls brands. That was at a time when newspapers rarely carried colour ads.

Might have something to do with the fact that the club itself claims to be in Co. Wicklow....

However you are correct, I just checked the OS Discovery maps 50 and 56 and the county boundary runs east to the coast south of Woodbrook, though an urban area in north Bray and Dargle View golf course. Dargle View straddles the boundary and in fact one of the DV holes appears to be in Co. Dublin but all of Woodbrook is definitely in Co. Dublin.
