You don't need to go near any motorway. I would head up through the Coombe, Cork St., Crumlin Road, Longmile Road, Nangor Road, then into Clondalkin. There is good quality bus lane (and cycle lane by extension) for a lot of this. The only bit that I would think would be any way hairy if you're not too used to cycling in traffic is the junction at the top of the Longmile Road to go across the Naas Road onto the Nangor Road. However, at the worst, it will mean waiting for a minute to get across your lane to go straight on.

I'd be much the same as irishmotorist. I'd go canal, Crumlin, Long Mile Road, Nangor Road.

I commute from Clondalkin to the city centre every day and take The Green Way (its worth it to avoid traffic even if it means a longer commute). I go from Stephens Green to Portobello bridge, take a right (legally) along the canal until I join the Green Way at Inchicore which takes me almost to Clondalkin village.

Which part of Clondalkin are you going to and part of the city centre you are coming from?

Used to cycle to work in Temple Bar on nice days,I cycled down the canal until Suir Road bridge, then down the South Circular Road and up through James Hospital,James Street etc til Temple Bar,took me about 25-30 mins usually.

Thanks for the replies. That's great news. I'm cycling from kilmainham to Rowlagh Clondalkin, so not the city centre at all.
