AOE Online has now been in a state of transition. Microsoft has now handed the project onto Supreme Commander developers Gas Powered Games. They're still chopping and changing the game and IMO its a solid strategy game now.

To top that off, tis now available on Steam so you don't have to download Windows Live Marketplace.

Kept putting off getting this mainly because ive far too many unfinished or untouched games but Cherryghosts seal of approval deserves a download atleast ;)

TB done a WTF is of the game about 10 months ago, might be usefull to somebody.

    lol oh you ;):p

To be honest it was a quite a big swing they decided to take with the series. It's lost a lot of fans due to the new city system in the game and the cartoonish graphics, but its gained a lot of fans purely because its free to play. Personally I think the city system is very 'Facebook'-styled in the line of games, but when you're down playing the game vs players, its top notch gameplay as it always has been.

Does it try and bleed you with micro-payments? I'm imagining "this upgrade with take 30 mins to complete, or instant upgrade for 20 credits!!"

Slightly yeah, its moreso micropayments to unlock more Civilizations to play with. Personally I think there's enough in the free base pack. I've played 10 matches this week and I've only lost 2, both to free Civs.

Ah right, I had my key already added to my GFWL account, so it didn't ask me to activate it.
