im not sure if this is the right forum, but i'd imagine lots of people here have dvds of varying regions so might know

dvd drive in pc is region 1, blu ray player is region 2 but i've ordered some region 3 dvds in the last week and need to get a seperate dvd player that I can make (or is already) region free
im not looking to spend much money as it'll only be for a couple of dvds (more in the future probably, but still I dont need any "features" other than play/pause.. remote might be handy too)

    any ideas?

The cheapest option is actually VLC player on your PC, which plays all region DVDs.

yeah i realised after i made the post that I never actually region flashed my dvd drive, but still be handy to have a standalone player

    --edit

oh, vlc just bypasses the drives region restrictions?
    well then, fair enough.

Most DVD players are easy enough to make multi-region using a remote hack. Just find a model that you like and google to see if it's possible and what's involved.

+1 on this. Most models can be hacked. Google model and press few remote buttons...

Region locking dvd players actually costs manfacturers to do. Rule of thumb to avoid it is to buy a cheap dvd player. These manufacturers cut costs in the factory by NOT region locking them and cut shippnig / logistics costs by then not having to worry about where to send specific models or batches.

A no name brand DVD player will more than likely be region free, somthing from the likes of Aldi or Lidl would be your best bet.

It took me less than 2 minutes to find and change my Phillips blu ray player which was region 2 to allow other regions to play. Do a search online for your blu ray players make and how to do it, should be easy to do.
