Problems connecting Logitech Wireless Keyboard to Vista x64 machine

Firstly, nothing was happening after I entered the code and I was getting a long error code.

Then I discovered that I might be entering the code too slowly. So, I did it quickly and the wheel started turning saying, Pairing Device. But, after about 30 seconds, I get a message saying; "The pairing process took too long. Devices ususally stay in recovery mode for only a short period of time to prevent power drain."

If I try pairing again, the same thing happens.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Okay obvious things first. Is the receiver fully plugged in to the USB port?
Are there new batteries in the keyboard?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes and yes. The wireless mouse is working fine off the same receiver and I've changed the batteries, just to be sure.

This happened again about a month ago, after years of service. Then, I removed the batteries and after reinstalling, a window appeared with a broken chaing symbol (I think) prompting me to enter a given code. When I did it worked.

This time, no code is appearing, and as I've said, entering the code on the underneath of the keyboard (Bluetooth Address) isn't working either.

Was this the bluetooth PIN (4 digit number)?
If the mouse is working then it might be worth removing all the existing software for the mouse/keyboard and reinstalling from scratch.
If that doesn't work then you could try installing on a different machine to see if there is possibly a hardware fault with the keyboard

    Sorted.

I uninstalled the Logitech software and rebooted. Working now. I presume that this prompted Vista's generic software to kick-in?

    Anyway, it's working.

    Thanks for your help.
