Clermont channel 68 - Patterning

Can anyone shed any light on the problems on channel 68 (TG4) from Clermont? Some serious issues with patterning (Horizontal lines on screen indicating an interferer of some sort) My testing seems to indicate the vision carrier is well below 3db down on norm and a spike indicates some from of interference.

Is there work being carried out on the mast or recent testing? This has been going on before the high lift occurred.

    Cheers Sam

Have always had that on analogue TG4 here (in Trim). It's never been watchable here. I've always just put it down to local interference of some sort. Have been on digital since I moved here anyway so not bothered investigating it anyway.

This thread seems to date the onset of this particular interference to around February 18th. The patterning mentioned on TG4 from Monaghan cleared up at least 2 weeks ago.

    No info on the cause.

The interfering pattern is still on TG4 analogue from Clermont Carn. I'm in Bangor Co. Down.

Well, no problems at this end.

The patterning that Sam talked about has been gone for a while now, although I did notice it at this location and thought it was some sort of local electrical interference.

That just looks like your tv isn't tuned properly.

Co-channel interference from a Sky STB maybe? They default to 68.

    Its not co-channel interference.

That picture looks like the effect of swamping by strong mobile phone base station signals. Older aerial amps may be more troublesome in this regard

Totally different from what I was getting a couple of weeks ago.

I had horizontal lines moving sowly down the screen. from top to bottom. Completely gone now.

Not too sure what to make of the picture but it definitely looks like some sort of RF interference.

I can get the exact same effect as in Iderown's picture by detuning (on any channel I receive, UHF or VHF).

Should have mentioned the set-up. There is a masthead amp and the feed is combined with that of a separate group A (H) from Divis. Plenty of scope there for extraneous signals! No Sky box in the house here - unknown if close neighbours have one. The TG4 signal has always been of marginal strength.

The old TV here does not feature manual fine tune.

Anyway, I hope that the NI mini mux from Black Mountain will do away with the need for the C/D yagi at the top of the mast.

The Black Mountain minimux will only carry RTÉ 1, 2 & TG4. It will not include TV3, 3E, 'News Now', RTÉ 1+1 etc. If you're likely to want any of the additional digital channels, the vertical C/D will still be needed.

    Machead and others

Any idea of the channel and polarisation of the proposed RTE mini multiplex from Black Mountain?
It will lbe a last minute change to DTT in this household but I could, at least, get the aerial sorted during the summer.

Will be horizontal polarisation, not sure of the channel; hopefully in group A.

I would think the situation will be clarified soon.

There was talk it may have a fourth channel and at least one radio service, at some point, if I remember correctly.
