    Been buying gels and energy bars in my local bike store but getting tired of paying 2e to 2.50e for them. Anybody any suggestions for shops in Ireland or online stores that do good deals on gels and bars. I have tried wiggle and chain reaction, would their prices be as good as you can get online? I generally use zipvit, powerbar and SIS.

    Thanks

    I find the best thing to do is keep an eye on the online stores for discounts and BOGOF deals! For example Wiggle recently did a bogof for boxes of High 5 Gels! I personally like the High 5 stuff and usually buy from PBK;

    Bit off topic but I saw a guy last week having a gel through a tube that looked like toothpaste. I think it was brilliant as it's not messy at all, but I can't remember the brand at all. Anyone knows what is it?

    Literally just ordered this now myself, needed a decent mini pump and it would have been rude not to add this in considering the price, and more bottles to throw away when I decide to get an A4 licence...

    Use the USN ones myself, very handy packaging. I find with a gel when I rip the top off I invariably end up dropping that part (will out empty wrapper in back pocket) so end up doing a small bit of littering.

    USN have an Irish site.

    I found Cycle Super Store the cheapest shop when I was last buying stuff. not sure about online. Buy well ahead of major events though there were getting cleaned out ahead of Gael Force.

    Holland and barrett have the stawberry and bannana powerbar gels for "2 for €2.23" until the end of the month.
    About the cheapest I've found them anywhere...

    If you know anyone going to/coming from the States and they don't mind carrying, there are body-building/sports nutrition chain stores in most malls and they'll do boxes ofd powerbar gels. I've picked them up for as little as 20 dollars plus tax for a box of 40 (I think, or maybe 30) I got some delicious "Gu" mint choc flavour gels as well one day - feckin gorgeous!. Other than that - it's keep the eye out and get lucky with a web special.

    I use the 'toothpaste' ones. Very handy delivery in races. There's nothing annoys me as much as guys throwing away gel wrappers but it's hard to hang onto the tear off bits of most brands. This one solves it.

    I got a sample pack from bike24 on an order a while back. I thought it was unusual to have them in that packaging

    I like the hi5 stuff and I buy a full box in my LBS. It works out about half the individual price.

    I know it's going a bit crazy in the UK, but there's really no need to be panic-buying fuel :D

    Zipvit (disclosure - they support Mel and I), often have half price or 2 for 1 deals on bars, gels and energy drink. Their recovery bars are devine.
