    Pine marten scat survey training and trapping demonstration event

    The Mammals in a Sustainable Environment (MISE) Project in conjunction with the Irish Squirrel and Pine Marten Project are pleased to invite you to a pine marten training event at Portlaw Woods, Co. Waterford on Saturday May 5th at 8.00 am for trapping demonstrations of the elusive pine marten with Peter Turner. This will be followed by a guided walk through the tracks in Portlaw woods where participants will learn how to identify and collect pine marten scats with Peter Turner and Emma Sheehy (NUI Galway).

    This will be followed by a light brunch in the Ramada Viking Hotel, Waterford and a series of short talks that will include on-going pine marten research in WIT and NUIG. It is envisioned that this event will train volunteers to participate in scat surveys during the summer in Waterford and in the midlands to facilitate ongoing studies in the MISE Project, Waterford IT and the Irish Squirrel and Pine Marten Project, NUIG.

    There will also be an opportunity for people to join the group at 11.00 am in the Ramada hotel to attend the talks followed by a scat survey training excursion to Portlaw Woods in the afternoon. This half day event is free to attend but places are limited and booking is essential. We request that those that wish to attend the event will also be willing to participate in at least one additional survey event during the summer.
