Much ado about nothing Written and Directed by Joss Whedon (Wrote the screenplay that is... I'm pretty sure he's not claiming original ownership!)

    Starring... Wait for it...
    Nathan Fillion ... Dogberry
    Alexis Denisof ... Benedick
    Amy Acker ... Beatrice
    Ashley Johnson ... Margaret
    Clark Gregg ... Leonato
    Riki Lindhome ... Conrade
    Sean Maher ... Don John
    Fran Kranz ... Claudio
    Spencer Treat Clark ... Borachio
    Tom Lenk ... Verges
    Reed Diamond ... Don Pedro

I cant seem to find any pics or anything though you can see the press release here and it says that "principal photography has completed."
Seemingly it was shot in 12 days in LA in his home! and everyone was on "micro paycheques" and its is being released by his own production company Bellweather Pictures.

Oh... and I found this interview with the man himself!

Unsurprising! It was done in complete secret and only announced a couple of months ago by Nathan Fillion on Twitter. He gave a link to a website, I'll see if I can find it in my history....

Nathan Fillion back in a Joss Whedon production? I'm sold!

Read about this and saw some pics a few months back, It seems interesting enough but I imagine that we may be waiting awhile before it's released over here.

While browsing on Netflix last night I saw the Brannagh version was available. So I watched it and got reacquainted with the characters and then some of the casting in Whedons version made total sense, like Benedick and Beatrice. But I'm not sure if Fillion can fill Michael Keatons shoes. He played that role perfectly. :) Check out the comparison... Wheadons Cast / Character / Brannagh Cast

    Nathan Fillion.............Dogberry.........Michael Keaton
    Alexis Denisof.............Benedick.........Kenneth Brannagh
    Amy Acker.................Beatrice..........Emma Thompson
    Ashley Johnson...........Margaret.........Imelda Staunton
    Clark Gregg................Leonato..........Richard Briers
    Riki Lindhome.............Conrade..........Richard Clifford
    Sean Maher................Don John........Keanu Reeves
    Fran Kranz.................Claudio...........Robert Sean Leonard
    Spencer Treat Clark.....Borachio.........Gerard Horan
    Tom Lenk...................Verges...........Ben Elton
    Reed Diamond.............Don Pedro.......Denzel Washington

We've had plenty of people on here that have already seen by now since it got it's European premiere at JDIFF last month.

Like the look of it though.. will definitely give it a watch when it comes out!

Very excited about this. Looks like Whedon is gonna make a good job of it.

It's a lot of fun, and really enlivens the material with a lot of physical comedy and great performances. It does what it says on the tin with personality and energy. It's a pleasant and often very amusing diversion.

You might be lucky and get to watch it in a screen with fewer horrible laughers and hardcore Whedonites than we had to endure at JDIFF though ;)

Doesn't seem bad at all from that trailer (the fact the dialogue was not written by Whedon himself is a real plus), but is this guy really cut-out to direct feature films? It looks like something that was made by the BBC...

The film isn't the most visually splendid work ever made: the cinematography is pretty perfunctory with a few nifty exceptions. But at the same time it was shot in twelve days, in Whedon's house, with low to no budget and in between the wrap of Avengers' principal photography and the commencement of post. It's simply a fun little aside, receiving a wideish release only because of its director. Still, the man can frame a good joke, and the ensemble are terrific.

Or: Serenity > Much Ado > Avengers.

Didn't realise it had such modest origins. Though that may be no bad thing: personally, I prefer film adaptations of drama to be fairly low-key in the visuals department, allowing the actors' interpretations of their parts to shine (the Beckett On Film series is an excellent example.)

Will it be receiving a wide/saturation release in Ireland?

Any update when this is getting released over here?

Can't wait to see it again!

I saw this film back at JDIFF and it was amazing! I recommend everyone to see this! It's contemporary but uses the Shakespearian language and what's great is, through Whedon's genius it's not campy. You get so immersed in the story that you don't even realise their speaking 18th century or whatever.

Also spoiler alert (Unless you read Much Ado): NO ONE DIES! Although I'm pretty sure Joss hated that fact. (We'll never forget Jenny, Joyce or Tara)

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it - unlike almost every amateur dramatic performance of Shakespeare ever staged, the use of the original language here feels entirely natural and the film is all the stronger for it. In particular I liked the way that the humour in the dialogue felt real - presented and timed and responded to as if it were part of a conversation, rather than being over-enunciated by an actor who is then given a few seconds for the audience to digest and laugh at the joke before the next person reads out their line.

Visually this isn't Whedon's strongest work, but there are a few wonderful shots (like the pool shot that's used on the poster). It's worth watching, though.

Saw Much Ado and thought it was amazing. Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof was brilliant as Beatrice and Benedick and I prefer this To Kenneth Branaghs over the top production any day.

And finally Fred and Wesley get a happy ending. :)

I hate these films set in more modern times but retaining the shakespherean language. it always comes across so clunky and awkward

Saw this, hope it is tongue in cheek

Just watched this a while ago and enjoyed it. Only came across it through Fillon's wikipedia page because I enjoyed Firefly so much.

    Good stuff!
