Hi guys, just looking for a bit of advice please lads, basically just found out that the ex-girlfriends mother is after commiting suicide! I feel really bad for the whole family obviously, but things between myself and the ex didn't really finish well and I don't know should I stay away or get in touch and offer my condolences (sp?) We broke up around a year ago I suppose, and havn't been in contact since! She has had a fairly rough year, her parents divorced and her brother emmigrated.

I feel like I should get in touch, but I'll be honest, I was a bastard when we broke up and I don't want to upset her more

It all depends on why you want to get in touch..
Is it to ease your guilt over being a 'bastard' as you said?

If it was me, I personally wouldn't want you to.
Perhaps, if you feel strongly over it, send a sympathy card and leave it at that..

I think its for the best to just leave it mate. If things ended badly, you'll just add to the pressure and emotions by possibly dragging up old feelings.

You broke up a year ago, its in the past, she probably doesn't even think about you now anyway.

I know you said that things ended badly, but I think that in this time knowing that you are in someones thoughts is reassuring. Maybe a simple message offering your condolences? Don't mention anything about you as a couple just say you are sorry for her hard year and her loss? I would appreciate it if it were me.

Leave it be. If you wanted to do anything get a mass card or something. Seeing you could make things even worse for her

she needs family and supportive friends around her now. not someone who behaved like a ba*tard when they broke up and whom she hasn't had contact with for a year. leave her alone.

send her a mass card expressing your condolences and just say if she needs someone to talk to your there if she wants.
