Future proofing for rainwater harvesting in the future

Currently two thirds through build. We want to prepare the house so as to easily have the option of rainwater harvesting down the road. The plumber is putting extra tank in the attic and generally in control of that end of things.

The question I have is what we should do on the wiring front as our sparks doesn't know? What provisions are needed now to have minimal work should be go for rainwater harvesting in the future?

Are you using the rainwater for toilets?

How does the water get from the gutters to the tank?

Water would probably be used for toilets and washing maching. Will keep an open mind on this however.

Water will be go from downpipes into ground pipe and channelled to the corner where the tank would go. Before such time it will flow from this point to a drainage stream behind the field.

Install a duct with draw wire from your utility to the collection tank to connect up a future pump. At the same time install the piperun from the tank in the ground to the dedicated reclamation tank in the attic.

Any idea what type of wiring needed? Would there be a need for an electrics in the attic or is it just a wiring for the pump outside? Does this depend on the type/purpose of system?

No idea of wiring - so just place a drawire ( i.e. blue nylon rope ) in the duct so when you have the pump - and cable - you pull it through then.

You only need to plumb between the ground tank and attic tank.

Using a ground tank, surely you only need a low level pump that simply feeds the attic tank. I don't know if the attic tank / pipework needs to be earthed.

Why not install a high level tank, below attic level, perhaps over the stairs? That way there should be no need for a pump. Does the water from teh roof need to be screened / filtered and if so, how is it done?

It would be inportant at this stage that any items that may be supplied with rain water in future are on a dedicated water supply line but this is pretty obvious.

This is been done. Its what provisions for wiring with such systems that I wanted to know about. Any Electricians have any experience of this with different RW harvesting systems.?
