Well Dylan Hartley has recieved an 8 week ban for biting Ferris which I think is him getting off wayyy to easy. This is a guy what has a history of unsportsmanlike behaviour and its something that I've said before is creeping more into the game of Rugby.

Obviously the IRB are currently under going some changes with refereeing which I think was needed, not that Paddy O'brien didn't do the worst job given the changes that were brought it. I can't though shake the feeling that there needs to be harsher and more sting to discipline committees, IRB and even the Unions themselves (FFR,IRFU, RFU etc) on players that step out of line and bring the sport into disrepute ? Thoughts?

Considering his previous convictions, this is a disgracefully short suspension.

I am surprised he was banned. From what I saw, I wasn't sure if there was enough evidence.
However, i'm more surprised that his ban is so short. The IRB were far too lenient. A ban twice that length would not have gone amiss

given his previous good character..............lol...........then I can only think that the mitigation that reduced it by 4 weeks was that Ferris had his hand in his mouth, if thats the case then he doesnt come out of it too well either

truthfully I'm surprised at the length of the ban because it would of been nearly as easy to give him a 4-5 month ban and set an 'example' of him without really missing any more games as it would just be covering the off season

I thought minimum suspension was 12 weeks? Ridiculous!

Seriously is that it? A player who has been given lengthy bans in the past for gouging is has the minimum ban of twelve weeks reduced by 4 weeks for recent good behavior?

On the other hand its nice that he'll be back for the start of England's summer tour.

How can the offence of biting be considered to be at the low end of the scale. Surely biting is biting - the player has made a conscious decision to bite another player which is disgraceful.

I wasn't aware of the allegation that Ferris had his finger/s in Hartley's mouth but again if that is the case then I would have assumed he could have been cited for foul play too?

I suppose low end is where you having someone biting in self defense, or a finger ended up in their mouth and biting by accident - think about gouging vs 'making contact with the eye area'. I can easily see someone biting something out of frustration/accident vs intentionally biting someone to injure them.

Having said that, knowing Hartley, he probably did it on purpose to get a raise out of the opposition, but even if it was looked upon at the lowest end of the scale, why didn't get 12 weeks?

Sends a bizarre message. If you're a thug like Hartley and can get away with biting people in a ruck, then feck it, you'll probably get away with plenty.

Hartley is English hence the short ban. The same applies to a slightly lesser extent to all the "home nations" & the SH big three.
If he was Gerorgian, Roumanian or even French or Italian 12 weeks would have been the very minimum & most likely he would have got a lot more. Tincu got a huge ban on zero evidence, to give but one example.

Should have gotten a longer ban. Sure the lad got a six month ban for eye gouging before. What a thug!

Has anybody actually seen the footage?

Without seeing the footage its impossible to speculate or opine about the severity of the ban.

For all we know Ferris could have been fishhooking him !!!
