The chief executive officer of telecoms group Eircom is to step down at the end of this year.

A statement from Eircom said Paul Donovan's decision was for personal reasons.

The company said the coming months would allow for the recruitment of a successor, a smooth transition and the conclusion of the group's planned restructuring of its balance sheet.

Eircom is currently in talks with a group of its main lenders on a proposal aimed at restructuring its €3.75 billion of debt.

I wonder where this leaves the Taskforce. Commitments made by someone heading for the exit can't be worth much. Still, not a bad guy. I wrote to him once, asking when our exchange would be enabled. His office phoned back to say June; and June it was.

    Desperate taste in music though….

Can't see him lasting that long......once you announce a decision like that you become a lame duck....surely a replacement will be in situ before long....question is will they be a telco expert or a nominee of the lenders/bankers sent in to squeeze the last few bob out of the corpse?
