    Hi guys,

Quick one! Looking to get into cycling properly, and want a sleek and solid starter bike! Saw a very nice looking one yesterday in local shop - €750.

That sound reasonable? It looks class!

    Brand? Model? Spec?

Hard to tell whether the price is reasonable given the info you've provided :o

Now I'm just a lurker. Would love to get into cycling but I'm stoney broke and not working. Don't think the wife would appreciate me going off for hours at a time and leaving the kids on their own either. But this question does seem to come up an awful lot. Would there be any way the people in the know could make a sticky with a list of bikes in each price range or spec? Just so people would have an idea what to keep an eye out for

Thought someone might ask that :) I was too taken with the dizzying array of shiny bikes to notice such trifling details! Well, all I know is that it is a something 1.1! I was asking about starter bikes and that was the first one he showed me. Seems like a standard, medium-price model. The guy knows my bro as well so he is throwing a 60 quid helmet in gratis!

Hijack away! we've something in common anyway and sounds like we're both newbs :)

The idea of just heading off in weather like this on a bike (or any weather, apart from snow, maybe), sounds great right now...I also need to lose weight and get fitter and I have always loved the freedom of cycling. So this could be the way to go :)

Yes sir! A very nice looking job I must say! Knew it was something like 'trek'..

Decent enough for a first bike?

it's grand, nothing special, you're paying more for the brand name advertising than the components vs a similarly priced cube, vitus, focus perhaps. worth looking around see if you can get last years model of e.g. a felt f85 or similar for the same money
