I bumped into these people by chance over the weekend and meant to post about it. The UK ultra-runner Sharon Gayter is in the middle of a Mizen head to Malin head run at the moment, where she is hoping to break the current record. She started at 7am on Sunday. So, she should be about half way there I'd imagine...

Sharon Gaytor is a top runner. She may well be able to break the record as long as the temperatures don't affect her (not a problem you'd expect in march, usually).

    What is the current record?

Jen Salter did it 4 days 23 hours last year. I don't know if there has been faster runs than that. I could have sworn Sharon said she wanted to beat 4 days and 4 hours, but I could be wrong about that..

I wonder how this will end.

    don't go there

I've no intention of going to either Mizen or Malin. Or jumping out of bushes along the way.

hahahaha I sincerely hope that she is not raising money for charity, and that she got permission to run on the roads of ireland for more than 26.2 miles whilst recording her time.

I believe from april onwards the responibility for ultra distances reverts back to the AAI. Less drama maybe:D

For her sake I hope she has the 'blessing' from an un-named organisation. I'm not going to post any links but there is some very nasty stuff out there regarding a previous attempt. Some individuals really need to grow up.

I doubt it, probably just a different type of drama. This is Irish athletics after all.

Info on AAI taking ultra selection on.

But back on topic. Any update on the Mizen to Malin effort?

Day 3: 226 miles were complete at the time of the report and the whole team was feeling confident about finishing on schedule.

She's trying to break 4 days, so in theory, if all goes to plan she should be finishing some time tonight or tomorrow morning (it's not clear what time she started, but she had completed 60 miles by 5.30pm Sunday 25th March).

Great time and a tough one to beat. We might need a few lads to step up and go for it, we are being out classed by the women. :D
