    Hi,

Can one live in the republic and legaly work up the North? Whats involved?
I have an opportunity to work for a company in Newry. It's a decent Managers job which would make it worth my while accepting since it's a substancial increase in pay from what I currently do. I dont want to have to move into Northern Ireland as such but I wont rule out a move either.
    What are my options?

    Thanks

Perfectly legal to live in Republic but work in NI . Tax is the biggest issue - you will be Tax Resident in ROI which means that you may be liable to pay tax in both jurisdictions.

For example - ( forgive the simplistic figures ) - say you earn the equivalent of 50,000 Euro and your UK tax and national Insurance bill is 20,000 and that is deducted from your pay via the UK PAYE system , so far so good.
Now if your Irish tax and USC/PRSI bill would have been 25,000 Euro then you would owe that 5,000 to the Irish Revenue - a sting in the tail.
Reverse it and say you pay UK tax of 25,000 whereas in ROI you would pay 20,000 then unfortunately you are not entitled to a rebate - it all depends on individual circumstances.

Also your income will be at the mercy of exchange rate fluctuations - to your advanatage at times but the opposite applies if the rates go the other way.

I dont' have a link, but am sure there's a helpful guide to this somewhere ... Revenue site, maybe. Or berhaps search this forum for "north" and someone wil have linked to it before.
