Advice

Considering buying a new laptop and looking for some advice.

Currently have a 14in HP Pavilion with Intel Centrino Duo that is nearly 5 years old. Pretty slow and a bit worried that it may die on me as currently doing a Masters.

Battery is completely dead in it (no longer charges) so use it plugged in the whole time.

Looking for something that will be fast and portable (reasonably light not too much more than 2kg.). Like the 14in screen so would be hoping for something similiar. Think it's the perfect compromise between 13in and 15in.

Normally have multiple documents and applications open at the same time so processor needs to be able to handle this.

Was considering HP Pavilion Beats Edition http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/11759674/art/hp/pavilion-dm4-3002ea-enter.html. Is this a good deal?

Nearly five years since I bought a laptop so any advice would help!

    Thanks

I'd say this is the better offer, similar GPU and much faster processor, if you need more RAM, that wouldn't too be expensive.

    It's a bit heavier though, 500g.

Ya it is a good bit heavier and bigger screen size than I need or particularly want.

What are Samsung like for Laptops? Haven't really heard anything about them

Didn't notice the screen size, sorry, then check this MSI, the CPU is slightly slower but the graphics much better, weight less than 2 kg and up to 8 hrs juice from the battery.

    (only 1 left)

Not really sure that I need better graphics. What would the advantage be?

Video editing, gaming mostly... no real benefit for anything else though. ;)

The MSI is much thinner and lasts longer on the battery, if mobility is an issue.

But if you're just looking for processing power, then get a Core i7, shouldn't be too hard to find with your budget.
