Welfare Complaint

In the process of re-starting my claim, I provided original ID to the Welfare Office which they promptly lost. This was some months ago. Of course, I realised my document was missing and immediately asked Welfare if they had it and if so to please let me know. They consistently denied they had my document.

Meanwhile, I had to obtain another copy of my document which of course costs money and considerable stress in trying to obtain it from the UK. This is not the first time Welfare have lost documents and then claimed non-receipt. (Thereby giving them an excuse to close the claim!)

I am so PO at them, I want to make a complaint. Will it be taken seriously, and would it be worth it?

    Any and all opinions welcome!

    TIA :)

Issue an FoI on your information and see what they have. It's free to do this.

The Social Welfare usually accept to see the original ID document, be it passport or other ID, make a copy of it on their own photocopier and immediately hand the document back to you. It would be hard to prove that you handed over the original without a signed receipt for it.

Balagun. It would not be difficult at all! They took my document, and never handed it back. It was only when Welfare asked me to produce ID again three days later that I realised it was missing.

I told them what had happened, and asked if the document was left in the photocopier. Was told that they didn't have it at all and I'd probably lost it myself.

The proof was the missing document turning up in the post this morning in a nice brown envelope!:D Only four months after I insisted they still had it and never handed it back...
