I was jamming in a rehearsal place the other day that had just got a couple of these bad boys:

My initial thought when I saw it was "Eugh, amp modeller".
I was extremely impressed with the sound.

Roghly around €1400 online to get it. I'm bloody tempted.

€1,400???? The newer model of that head is only €425 on Thomann with the cab being another €385 http://www.thomann.de/ie/line6_spider_iv_hd_150.htm http://www.thomann.de/ie/line6_spider_412_cab.htm

The Spider III HD75 was also going for €49 in the Musicmaker sale.

Just be careful, a lot of the Line6 stuff is fragile, components and boards are held in with Hot Glue, one good thump and things stop working.

The owner of the place I was rehearsing in told me he got a few for an extremely good price (I won't say how much) in that sale.

You can get that head for around 150 quid on adverts, but you must have been wearing ear muffs or something, they're the biggest piles of crap I've ever played through.

If it was in Badland studios, Paddy manage to score 4 cabs with v30's in them for 150 in the MusicMaker sale, so they're not the cabs that usually come with the amp.

    Still terrible amps though.

There's a lot of Line 6 gear up on adverts and it's seems very hard to move along. Just food for thought if you outgrow your purchase. If you are going to spend that kind of money (1400) you will probably shop around quite a bit before hand. Did I mention that I have an amp for sale, it will really suit you

for that price buy yourself a marshall DSL , wont beat it.

Theyre like the landrover of amps as well when it comes to durability

    Marshall JVM beats it. ;)

€1400 seems savage money for Line 6 amps.
Is it the Line 6 DT50 valve head? http://www.thomann.de/ie/line6_dt50_head.htm

I'll be spending tomorrow soldering a new USB port to my Bass POD XT Live.

    +1
they are a beginner amp. Have a very compressed digital sound. Teenage metal heads love them as they have some very high gain settigns. where is that link from? $7,000??? WTF they are only a few hundread euro

I've never been a fan of Marshalls. My current amp is a Laney tube amp and it gives a lovely sound but is in need of repair at the moment.
The point about the reliability of the Line6 gear is worrying. I had a Pod XT which I'd been using lately and once I dug it out to use, some chip inside it was malfunctioning/broken and wouldn't let me hook it up to a PC, which is a common problem apparently. I was told to send it to the customer centre in UK (none in Ireland) to get it replaced which sounded expensive. Then the other day, the whole thing stopped working. Bit of a disappointment.

Currently using amplitube as a plug in with Ableton which has been surprisingly good so far. Can't get a decent distortion sound though.

Nah too much going on inside of the JVM for me, more to go wrong in my opinion, I'v played a few as well.
Theres just something rough and original with the DSL.

Plus an awful lot of (often big) bands either bring them, or rent them here. It's the Marshall most likely to be seen on an Irish stage, from what I've seen.

+1 on this. I have a Line 6 on adverts that just won't sell. Nothing wrong with it per se, but if I still liked the sound of it I wouldn't be trying to flog it. If you like the pre-programmed sound models then it's fine but it's not all that versatile. For that reason I wouldn't buy one again, but there is a lot worse out there.

If you really want to get a modelling amp, definitely grab this http://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-amp-heads/pid23949/cid689/line-6-vetta-ii-head-plus-matching-vetta-4x12-celestion-30-cab.asp

The cab alone was selling for that much, and it's a decent cab with good speakers.

The head is a big step up from the HDIII, still not a fan, but a good head also, normally retails for a ton more.

Modelling amps are getting so damn good, there was a blind test recently where the exact same piece of music was played through a real amp, and modelling amp, and a lot of top musicians from top bands in most instances thought the modelling amp was the real thing.

Modelling's been around for over 10 years now, and it's getting awesome. But the same as some people prefer older cars over new, people will always prefer valve amps, horses for courses and to each their own.
