I've put up photographs of the 10 toughest courses in Ireland (IMO) on my blog... if you have a few minutes, see if you can guess which ones they are... there's a link at the bottom which gives the answers.

And no doubt someone will have an additional course or two to add in, so feel free...

Just one thing I noticed from the blog, and I'm being pedantic! Sandy Hills is listed as ~6,300 yards, it's actually just over 7,200 from the back sticks.

I know, I know, but who plays from the back sticks? I played at the Heritage on Friday and the Manager said that even in the big comps they've stopped playing from the back sticks because it's too long.

If you played from Rosapenna's back tees you'd use up your entire week's holiday finishing a single round.

All measurements are from the 'regular' tees.

Which is your favourite out of the ones you have played?

Tough, Love the European and RCD. Thought Rospenna was great. Carne and Enniscrone are just pure rugged spectacular Links golf. Not a fan of the Monty but headford is great.
Think the 7th in the European should have been in the list and the 3rd in Mount Juliet.

Hi Kevin do you have them in order on your blog ie 1 being toughest? I ask because I played Enniscrone last week and would love to think its the hardest in the country ;-) big numbers :(

    Basically Pat Ruddy = Hard.

And whilst I think Sandy Hills is king of the bunch, you could easily add Ballyliffin Glashedy and Druid's Heath as well.

I wasn't posting specifically tough holes - just pics to give an idea of which course it is. Still, I'm surprised to see you suggest Mount Juliet's 3rd. Not that tough, surely.

Yep, they're in order of difficulty. Two questions on Enniscrone: was it your first visit? And was the wind up?

On a first visit it's a beast - you can't really hit a driver on the par five 2nd and on the 12th, which is index 1 or 2 I think, a driver will get you in to more trouble. It's all about positioning.

Yea, read your thread on that one - great scoring on a course like Portmarnock Links.

Cheers Kev, I was hitting it really well, only had a few holes where i was doing stupid things. Couple of crosswinds pulled my ball just right or left of the green but ended up a few times in real dodgy lies making up and down very very hard, i love the undulating and hard fairways, greens tasty too, cant wait for more :)

    Kevin,

You might want to revisit the blog and check where Enniscrone is.........

Great list btw, have played 7 of them and each one was both agony and ecstacy!
