What kind of fares have you been charged in maynooth? I got a taxi from the train station to moyglare village on sunday, and the taxi driver charged me 9.50. At most its a distance of 1.6 km. I had a date with me so I didn't cause a fuss. Had I been a lone I would of told him go fcuk himself. Stingy scummy pr1ck.

Most local runs in Maynooth are €6, maybe extra with passengers.

Never been charged over six euro myself either, but I've only ever used the local companies tbh.

i didnt know taxi drivers could do that. does it cost more to carry two passengers to a destination as opposed to one?

metered fare should have ran to circa €5.80 (assuming distance of 1.9 Km, googlemaps ) plus any extras such as extra passenger or booking fee

BTW if a taxifirm does €6 local fares and the actual fare on the meter is less they are guilty of an offence

The metered ones always cost more though if you ask them for a €6 fair they usually take that as they know otherwise you can just go to Maynooth cabs. Last time I checked the eurosaver shop beside the Mill have a stack of €1 off vouchers for Maynooth cabs too, dead handy to keep a few in your wallet.

    Relevant ===> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055702674

basically if you have a complaint, ask for a receipt (which you're entitled to) and take as many details as possible of the taxi for your complaint

see post #5 in aforementioned thread

obviously seeing as you were on a date, ask for the receipt when your date isn't within earshot seeing as you've previously stated you, understandably, didnt want to make a fuss in front of her

If you go with one of the local companies then it'll cost €6. You can go anywhere in Maynooth and it's still going to be only €6.

If you choose one of the 'black' taxis (for lack of a better phrase) then you deserve to be ripped off imo. The difference when you're going out to one of the Moyglare estates is unreal.

You got off lightly having to only go to Moyglare Village. If you went as far as the estate past Moyglare Abbey on the right then you'd nearly need to take a mortgage out on it to pay.

i remember a friend saying that he and his gf got one of those taxis to his place in silken vale from tesco with the shopping and the guy tried to charge him 15 quid. He paid (cos the gf was there and he didnt wanna look tight) but needless to say he buys a more manageable amount in tesco since :P

Clearly the difference is between metered taxis and hackneys?

I started first year this year, so it might have been during my registration or something, but one taxi company was giving out bottle openers and stuff and they claimed any local trip would be a set charge of a fiver! Anyone know this company?

why doesnt your mate just order online the next time. sure tesco would only charge 5 euro for that run. taxi drivers and landlords in maynooth personify gombeenism/scum

The two local taxi/hackney companies, Maynooth Cabs and Manor Cabs, do all local runs anywhere in Maynooth for €6 (€5 with Maynooth Cabs if you present one of their vouchers to the driver).

The taxis on the street will charge you a metered fare. The standing charge on the meter is € 4.10, €1 for each additional passenger plus the cost for distance travelled.

Makes much more economic sense to pre-book your journey, call them to collect you or call into the base of the local firms.
