"which are so rarely seen no population estimates of the species exist."

Wow, that IS elusive. Also, there have been no reports of interaction with humans. Hunting, accidents etc.

    From wiki:
"Adult males also have a pair of tusks at the tip of the lower jaw."
Interesting. I wonder what they are for...

    Interesting.

Several beaked whale species have those tusks- they are really freaky looking cetaceans :pac:
I remember reading an old book which stated that they use the tusks to fight each other, and that's why most adult male beaked whales are covered on scars. Not that other toothed whales don´t manage to scar each other just fine with normal teeth...

If you look at a sperm whale's tooth it is not too dissimilar to that of Tyrannosaurus rex!

I read that a while ago, but couldn't find the actual footage anywhere :( Its amazing how elusive they are. Its not uncommon for dead ones to get washed up in Ireland.

i have a whale's tooth, pretty sure it's a sperm whales but can't be certain. My friend cut it out of a dead whales mouth when I was a teenager

I might post a picture of it to see if anyone can ID it.
