My Dell Inspiron has just died and I need to get a new laptop asap. Not much in the budget only up to 500 (hopefully with office and security). I tend to only browse web, edit photos and play video (take a lot of photo and video) ..... also use for writing lots!
Is the above link a good offer or if you can reccomend anything else I would be grateful ....thanks in advance !

No, it's not. The AMD E-Series fusion processors are horrible, stay clear of any AMD they just can't hold a candle to Intel mobile processors, exception may be the A8 which is somewhere between a Core i3 and i5.

Do want to buy in a shop? Because you do get better offers online. Pricing for the cheapest Core i3 laptops start at around €450.

Now, I wouldn't know where to get the best deal for MS Office, are you a student? Plenty good security suites are free for personal use are free (Avast!, AVG and Avira being the most popular), you don't really have to spend money on that.

Thanks a million for feedback .. would prefer shop as have cash to hand and need asap ... so I search for i3 rather than amd and look for free security? ... thanks for tip! Not a student any more so no discounts but will have a search of sites and see if any more catch my eye. Thanks again!

Unless you need 100% MS compatibility, there are a variety of free or cheap office alternatives that allow you to open MS Office files or save your files in formats that can be opened with MS Office, for example OpenOffice/LibreOffice (free and open source) or Kingsoft Office 2012 (a blatant Microsoft clone from China, also free).

They come with a word processor, spreadsheets, presentation, database and drawing programs. In general, compatibility to Microsoft Office is very good, sometimes though compatibility issues usually arise with spreadsheet formulae or databases.

But for casual use, these office suites are perfectly OK.

Now here is an Acer Core i5 for €498 at HarveyNorman, if it iis still available, it's a pretty good deal for a shop. I'd say, go for it.

Or a HP Core i3 for €477. They also have a Pentium-based laptop for 449, certainly better than the AMD E-Series laptops... by a countrymile. But not match for a Core i3 let alone a Core i5.

That looks ideal and the price is right too ! Thanks for searching for me - appreciate you taking the time. I had forgotten about open office as haven't used it in a while so thanks for the reminder. Glad I posted now ! Good luck with your search 3Faithfull ! Thanks Torqay !

    You're more than welcome.

Another option is Softmaker Office, which I like very much because it is extremely fast and does have some nice features. Although not free you wouldn't have to break the bank either.
