central heating using solar in Ireland?

Just wondering Is central heating using solar in Ireland realistic. House is south facing, with a medium sized roof, is it an expensive proposition to store the energy from the summer months, and release into heating system during winter, and are there worthwhile grants. Thanks

    Technically it can be done.
ST heating works fine with my property, about 50% coverage.
PV for direct CH (electric resistance heating) will propably be cheaper in a few years than any other alternative. Estimates now are for about 2016/2017.

    hi
we are sorting quotes for build of 245 sq m house wide cavity block[150cavity with 110 poly incsul in cavity].pre build ber A .
space heating on deap is 6210 kWh annual and dhw about 150[partial use].
lookin at altern heating -maybe air/water h ex [tho cop low winter time]

will have low output ufh -lookin at LVP RENEWABLES thermal array to see if this could provide space heating in addition to dhw.or maybe stove with a back boiler.dont want oil/gas.also need a modicum of automation.
    any one have any ideas?:confused::confused:

Contact your architect, civil engineer, builder etc.. The thermal energy demand must be calculated according to EN 12831 (or similar).
Without demand calculation no heating system can be recommended.

ST heating systems have nothing in common with heat pumps.

    tnx tho a little puzzled
have provided calc energy demands as on prev post-architect has done the calcs
i believe the lvp thermal array a little different to reg solar as it stores heat in all conditions e.g. cloud n rain as a gas which it then compresses and stores.
looking at their site there is also a possibility to connect to space demand heating?

Contact your "architect" again and demand an energy demand calculation according to EN12831. Pay for it, demand the calculation sheet on paper, signed and sealed.
The DHW demand you have published can't be right. 150kWh will feed a 10kw shower 150 times with 1 kWh at each time.

The anual energy demand for the tea kettle is higher.

Apologies read wrong line in Deap report according to part l regs from architect, and no he is real and probably doesn't merit the apostrophe, the real hot water demand is in region of 3555 kwh annual.
You seem a little exercised re eu regs I'm ok with the Deap regs for a baseline tho will prob get someone maybe engineer to help with specific demands and how best to address them.
Any more useful comments would be appreciated.

You are in the wrong thread, fairwind.

Open a new one, like "Icemakers on the roof - can they heat?". Or something like it.

This thread is about ST heating systems heating a structure, a building.

im finding heinbloed comments and posts both unhelpful and frankly insulting.
i am looking at solar tech for heating and dhw not as bizarrely posted for ice making purposes...
am trying to find some USEFUL info on this particularly wrt heat pumps ,solar thermal and anyone with any dealings with lvp

paddy147 has had the LVP system installed, im sure he will tell all if you PM him.
You will need a thermal store (buffer tank) if you want the solar to compliment the heating and the fact you are going with underfloor heating makes this project very doable.

The back boiler stove is another great option as a secondary heat source.
